- Suppress leading zeros in each 16-bit hextet (e.g.
0db8becomesdb8). - The double colon (
::) must compress the longest consecutive run of all-zero hextets. - If runs are of equal length, compress the first run.
- Lower-case hexadecimal digits (
a-f) must be used.
